# Action films

An action film has one job: keep us certain where everyone is, what they want and what it will cost them, and hold that while things move fast. That is what we are scoring. Not the size of the explosion but whether we could follow it, and whether we minded who walked out of the smoke. Most of what we hold was made after 2010. Most of what we would press on a stranger was not.

Start with [Seven Samurai](/film/seven-samurai), 95, which makes the recruiting as absorbing as the fighting. Then [Raiders of the Lost Ark](/film/raiders-of-the-lost-ark), 93, for action you can always read and a hero who looks properly battered. Then [Heat](/film/heat), 91, where the gunfire frightens because we have spent so long with the men holding the guns. After those, try [Aliens](/film/aliens) and [RoboCop](/film/robocop), and [Harakiri](/film/harakiri) if you want the genre at its quietest and most angry.

For US. 681 titles; 60 listed here. Add `?region=XX` for another country.

- [*The Stunt Driver*](https://film.one/film/the-stunt-driver.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 66 · R · 1h 39m · Action/Comedy
Michael Dowse’s film about the stuntman Ken Carter has a fine, frightened performance from Jay Baruchel and a real feel for its era. It is also slow where it should be tense, and funnier in memory than it was while we sat through it.
- [*The Uprising*](https://film.one/film/the-uprising.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 62 · R · 2h 08m · Drama/Action
Paul Greengrass’s historical drama has a persuasive lead in Andrew Garfield and a convincing medieval setting. Its relentless action is harder to recommend: the movement does too much of the storytelling.
- [*Hope*](https://film.one/film/hope.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 77 · R · 2h 37m · Science Fiction/Mystery
Na Hong-jin’s creature feature has enough wit and well-staged pursuit to make its excesses worth enduring. We recommend it for the action, with fair warning that the creatures are less convincing than the chases.
- [*Runner*](https://film.one/film/runner.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 56 · PG-13 · 1h 37m · Action/Comedy
Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson are good company, and the car stunts deliver. But Scott Waugh’s uneven action comedy struggles to make its jokes, violence and sentiment belong in the same film.
- [*Onslaught*](https://film.one/film/onslaught.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 58 · R · 1h 32m · Action/Horror
Adam Wingard goes back to the small siege film he does well, with Adria Arjona holding the door. The style is sure and the score is a pleasure; the film keeps promising a rampage and delivers it in instalments.
- [*Colony*](https://film.one/film/colony.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 62 · R · 2h 03m · Action/Horror
Yeon Sang-ho’s *Colony* has unnerving infected bodies and a useful new problem: zombies that think together. The action earns attention, but thin characters and repeated explanations make this one for the already interested.
- [*Mutiny*](https://film.one/film/mutiny.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 66 · R · 1h 35m · Action/Thriller
Jason Statham makes the cramped fights in *Mutiny* worth the wait, but Jean-François Richet takes too long getting him to work. A serviceable action thriller, with little to sustain it between blows.
- [*Spider-Man: Brand New Day*](https://film.one/film/spider-man-brand-new-day.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 72 · PG-13 · 2h 25m · Science Fiction/Action
Cretton’s Spider-Man is the loneliest and most grown-up of Holland’s run, and for an hour it is the best of them. Then the guest stars and the green screen arrive, and the film gets longer and less interesting at the same time.
- [*Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender*](https://film.one/film/avatar-aang-the-last-airbender.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 64 · PG · 1h 39m · Animation/Adventure · on Paramount+
Lauren Montgomery brings Aang and his friends back as adults, and the drawing and the fights are as good as the series ever managed. The story underneath is thin and in a hurry, and it saves its best scenes for people who love these characters.
- [*Motor City*](https://film.one/film/motor-city.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 68 · R · 1h 44m · Action/Thriller
Potsy Ponciroli’s revenge thriller strips out the dialogue and lets the soundtrack carry it, and for an hour that is a good trick. The action is brutal and well staged; the story beneath it is thin, and the film loses its nerve at the end.
- [*The Odyssey*](https://film.one/film/the-odyssey.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 83 · R · 2h 53m · Adventure/Action
Christopher Nolan’s Homer is a war film about what happens after the war, shot enormous and acted quietly, and for long stretches it is as good as anything he has made. It is also nearly three hours, and in the middle you feel every one of them.
- [*Lucky Strike*](https://film.one/film/lucky-strike.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 52 · R · 1h 42m · Action/War
Rod Lurie’s *Lucky Strike* stages combat with assurance, but its solitary struggle gives us too little reason to care. Scott Eastwood is a credible action lead, hampered by clumsy dialogue and familiar writing.
- [*Jackass: Best and Last*](https://film.one/film/jackass-best-and-last.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 72 · R · 1h 32m · Action/Comedy
*Jackass: Best and Last* is funny, affectionate and too reliant on old footage. The friendships still justify an evening, but the new stunts do not quite give this farewell enough of its own.
- [*Supergirl*](https://film.one/film/supergirl.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 56 · PG-13 · 1h 48m · Action/Adventure
Milly Alcock is a sour, tired, believable Supergirl and the film around her cannot keep up. A simple revenge plot, a child, a dog and three editors, and the fights are still too dark to follow.
- [*The Death of Robin Hood*](https://film.one/film/the-death-of-robin-hood.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 66 · R · 2h 03m · Adventure/Drama
Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer give Michael Sarnoski’s sombre Robin Hood drama enough humanity to justify the grimness. The performances make it worth considering, though the script keeps returning to remorse long after we have understood the problem.
- [*Stop! That! Train!*](https://film.one/film/stop-that-train.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 63 · R · 1h 30m · Action/Comedy · on Netflix
Adam Shankman’s drag-queen disaster spoof is good-natured and quick, and Ginger Minj and Jujubee earn their laughs as the stewardesses. But the script recycles more than it invents, the cameos do work the writing should, and the train never looks as if it weighs anything.
- [*The Furious*](https://film.one/film/the-furious.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 82 · R · 1h 53m · Action/Crime
Kenji Tanigaki’s *The Furious* earns our recommendation through inventive, punishing fights and the clarity with which it shows them. The thin kidnapping story and awkward dialogue matter, but they seldom get long enough to spoil the evening.
- [*Masters of the Universe*](https://film.one/film/masters-of-the-universe.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 58 · PG-13 · 2h 21m · Action/Fantasy · on Amazon Prime Video
Travis Knight’s reboot is bright, cheerfully cast and has a Skeletor worth the ticket in Jared Leto. But the script cannot decide whether it is in on the joke or is the joke, and at 141 minutes the winking wears thin.
- [*The Mandalorian and Grogu*](https://film.one/film/the-mandalorian-and-grogu.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 58 · PG-13 · 2h 12m · Action/Adventure · on Disney+
Jon Favreau’s big-screen outing for the armoured bounty hunter and his green ward is pleasant, tidy and forgettable, a pair of good television episodes with the joins painted over. The puppet and Martin Scorsese’s street vendor are the reasons to stay.
- [*Mortal Kombat II*](https://film.one/film/mortal-kombat-ii.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 50 · R · 1h 56m · Action/Fantasy · on HBO Max
The tournament the first film promised finally arrives, and Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage is worth the wait. Little around him is: the fights blur into one another, Outworld looks unfinished, and the story is a run of cutscenes between the finishing moves.
- [*Balls Up*](https://film.one/film/balls-up.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 40 · R · 1h 44m · Comedy/Action · on Amazon Prime Video
Peter Farrelly’s comedy is too repetitive to recommend. Mark Wahlberg supplies some welcome foolishness and Dave Palmer supplies a lively score, but the genital jokes keep coming after the film has run out of ideas.
- [*Beast*](https://film.one/film/beast.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 66 · R · 1h 55m · Action/Drama · on Starz
Tyler Atkins’s cage-fighting drama does nothing the genre has not done before, and it does most of it properly. Daniel MacPherson holds it together with a stillness the script rarely earns, and the fights can be followed. We knew every beat before it landed.
- [*War Machine*](https://film.one/film/war-machine.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 63 · R · 1h 50m · Action/Science Fiction · on Netflix
Patrick Hughes puts Alan Ritchson through Ranger training and then sets a giant machine on him. The fights are staged with real skill; the men in them are numbers rather than people, so the hits land and the losses do not.
- [*Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die*](https://film.one/film/good-luck-have-fun-dont-die.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 64 · R · 2h 14m · Science Fiction/Action · on Hulu
Gore Verbinski’s return is fast, loud and frequently funny, with Sam Rockwell giving everything as a time traveller trying to save a world that will not look up from its screen. It has about ninety minutes of ideas and 134 minutes of film.
- [*The Rip*](https://film.one/film/the-rip.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 65 · R · 1h 53m · Action/Thriller · on Netflix
Joe Carnahan puts Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and a room full of cash in a Miami house for one long night, and for an hour it grips. Then the door keeps opening, the script keeps explaining, and the tension leaks out with each new arrival.
- [*Father Joe*](https://film.one/film/father-joe.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 55 · 1h 56m · Action/Crime
Luc Besson’s script gives Kiefer Sutherland a collar and a gun and little else. Sutherland plays it dead straight, which is the film’s best joke and its only real idea; around him the violence is loud, the humour flat and the picture oddly cheap.
- [*The Running Man*](https://film.one/film/the-running-man.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 60 · R · 2h 13m · Action/Thriller · on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+
Edgar Wright’s version of Stephen King’s novel is quick, handsome and well cast, and for an hour it is a good time. Then it starts repeating itself, the satire never gets under the skin, and the ending loses its nerve.
- [*Predator: Badlands*](https://film.one/film/predator-badlands.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 70 · PG-13 · 1h 47m · Action/Science Fiction · on Hulu
Dan Trachtenberg turns the series’ monster into its underdog and pairs him with Elle Fanning’s talkative synthetic, and the odd couple carry it. It is likeable, well built and gentler than a Predator film has any business being.
- [*Battle Royale*](https://film.one/film/battle-royale.md) — 2000 · Fi1m 83 · R · 1h 53m · Drama/Thriller · on Tubi
Kinji Fukasaku’s *Battle Royale* makes its teenage killing contest frightening by taking the teenagers seriously. The flashbacks labour the point, but the cruelty, foolishness and stubborn affection are hard to shake.
- [*TRON: Ares*](https://film.one/film/tron-ares.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 50 · PG-13 · 1h 59m · Science Fiction/Adventure · on Disney+
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have written the best thing in Joachim Rønning’s third *Tron* film by some distance. Under it sits one good chase, a great deal of talk about what machines want, and Jared Leto not answering.
- [*The Smashing Machine*](https://film.one/film/the-smashing-machine.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 70 · R · 2h 03m · Drama/History · on HBO Max
Benny Safdie’s portrait of the fighter Mark Kerr is quiet, careful and better acted than we had any right to expect, with Dwayne Johnson unrecognisable and good. It is also slower than it needs to be, and more ordinary than its manner lets on.
- [*Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle*](https://film.one/film/demon-slayer-kimetsu-no-yaiba-infinity-castle.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 74 · R · 2h 36m · Animation/Action
Haruo Sotozaki delivers inventive animated combat and gives the demons enough history to make their suffering matter. We recommend it to series followers, with a warning that repeated flashbacks make an already long film feel longer.
- [*The Naked Gun*](https://film.one/film/the-naked-gun.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 77 · PG-13 · 1h 25m · Comedy/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video
Akiva Schaffer’s revival keeps the old rule that nobody on screen may know they are in a comedy, and Liam Neeson obeys it to the letter. The gags come fast and thin out late, but enough of them land.
- [*The Fantastic 4: First Steps*](https://film.one/film/the-fantastic-4-first-steps.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 71 · PG-13 · 1h 55m · Science Fiction/Adventure · on Disney+
Matt Shakman’s reboot is the warmest and best-dressed Fantastic Four yet, and its four leads behave like people who have shared a bathroom for years. The planet-eater coming for them is a good deal less interesting than their kitchen.
- [*Superman*](https://film.one/film/superman.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 66 · PG-13 · 2h 10m · Science Fiction/Adventure · on Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max
James Gunn’s Superman is kind, bright and busy. David Corenswet makes a warm and credible hero and Nicholas Hoult a Luthor worth disliking, but the film keeps adding characters and crises until the last act is mostly noise.
- [*Jurassic World Rebirth*](https://film.one/film/jurassic-world-rebirth.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 63 · PG-13 · 2h 14m · Science Fiction/Adventure · on Netflix
Gareth Edwards stages dinosaurs with more patience and scale than the series has managed in years, and two long sequences are close to wonderful. David Koepp’s script sends people we barely know on an errand that runs out before the film does.
- [*F1*](https://film.one/film/f1.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 66 · PG-13 · 2h 36m · Action/Drama · on Apple TV
Joseph Kosinski puts a camera inside a real Formula One car and the racing is as thrilling as any we have seen on screen. Everything between the races is a sports film we have watched a dozen times, with better tailoring and a longer running time.
- [*How to Train Your Dragon*](https://film.one/film/how-to-train-your-dragon.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 60 · PG · 2h 05m · Fantasy/Family · on Netflix
Dean DeBlois remakes his own animated film almost shot for shot, with real rock, real weather and a Toothless you could touch. The flying still works and Mason Thames is a fine Hiccup, but it is longer, slower and adds almost nothing the first one lacked.
- [*Predator: Killer of Killers*](https://film.one/film/predator-killer-of-killers.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 72 · R · 1h 25m · Animation/Action · on Hulu
Dan Trachtenberg takes the Predator through the Viking age, feudal Japan and the Pacific war in 85 animated minutes, and the fights are as inventive as any the series has staged. The people being fought over are thinner than the blades. Worth an evening if the franchise is yours.
- [*Ballerina*](https://film.one/film/ballerina.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 58 · R · 2h 05m · Action/Thriller · on HBO Max
Ana de Armas earns the franchise and Len Wiseman’s film spends its first hour explaining why. Once the talking stops and the flamethrowers come out, it is the fun it should have been all along; getting there is a slog.
- [*Karate Kid: Legends*](https://film.one/film/karate-kid-legends.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 64 · PG-13 · 1h 34m · Action/Adventure · on Netflix
Ben Wang gives this martial-arts sequel warmth and a reason to care. The fights are lively, but the hurried storytelling leaves its new friendships underdeveloped and gives Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio too little room.
- [*Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning*](https://film.one/film/mission-impossible-the-final-reckoning.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 63 · PG-13 · 2h 50m · Action/Thriller · on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+
Christopher McQuarrie’s eighth *Mission: Impossible* has two set pieces, one under the sea and one in the air, as good as any the series has produced. It also has an hour of people explaining the plot to each other before either arrives.
- [*Thunderbolts**](https://film.one/film/thunderbolts.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 71 · PG-13 · 2h 07m · Action/Science Fiction
Marvel sends its spare parts into a hole and comes back with a film about not feeling well. Florence Pugh carries it; the first act dawdles and the fights are ordinary, but the ending earns its quiet.
- [*Sinners*](https://film.one/film/sinners.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 79 · R · 2h 18m · Horror/Action · on HBO Max
Ryan Coogler’s vampire film about a juke joint in 1932 Mississippi is at its best before the vampires arrive, and the hour of music that opens it is as good as anything he has made. The siege that follows is well staged and more ordinary.
- [*The Amateur*](https://film.one/film/the-amateur.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 54 · PG-13 · 2h 03m · Thriller/Action · on Amazon Prime Video
Rami Malek’s grieving code-breaker is an interesting man to hand a gun to, and one rooftop set piece justifies the trip. Around it, Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli’s script gives him every answer a password away, and revenge with no risk is just travel.
- [*Warfare*](https://film.one/film/warfare.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 76 · R · 1h 35m · War/Action · on HBO Max
Garland and Mendoza rebuild a 2006 Ramadi firefight in real time from the memories of the men who fought it, and it is the most convincing combat we have sat through in years. What it will not tell you is why anyone was there.
- [*A Working Man*](https://film.one/film/a-working-man.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 41 · R · 1h 56m · Action/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video
Jason Statham remains watchable in a rescue thriller dragged down by repeated fights, tangled plotting and leaden dialogue. David Harbour supplies welcome humour, but we cannot recommend spending 116 minutes waiting for the film to relax.
- [*Captain America: Brave New World*](https://film.one/film/captain-america-brave-new-world.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 46 · PG-13 · 1h 59m · Action/Thriller · on Disney+
Anthony Mackie is ready to carry the shield and Harrison Ford is ready to fall apart in the Oval Office. The film around them is a conspiracy thriller with the paranoia left out, shot in murk and visibly stitched together. Watchable, not much more.
- [*Ne Zha 2*](https://film.one/film/ne-zha-2.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 67 · NR · 2h 24m · Animation/Action · on HBO Max
Jiaozi’s animated fantasy gives its battles more care than its storytelling. The movement and detail can be absorbing, but 144 minutes of crowded mythology, crude jokes and renewed combat wear down the pleasure.
- [*Detective Chinatown 1900*](https://film.one/film/detective-chinatown-1900.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 54 · 2h 15m · Comedy/Mystery
The slapstick earns a few laughs and Chow Yun-Fat gives the crowded mystery some authority. But predictable plotting and heavy-handed politics make 135 minutes feel longer than the jokes can justify.
- [*Star Trek: Section 31*](https://film.one/film/star-trek-section-31.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 35 · PG-13 · 1h 36m · Science Fiction/Adventure · on Paramount+
Michelle Yeoh’s disgraced emperor gets her own spin-off, and it turns out to be a heist comedy with the jokes played too loud and the heist cut too fast. She is worth watching. Little around her is, and most critics agree.
- [*The Count of Monte Cristo*](https://film.one/film/the-count-of-monte-cristo.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 80 · NR · 2h 58m · Adventure/Action
Delaporte and de La Patellière’s Dumas is handsome, brisk for its length, and held together by Pierre Niney, who plays revenge as a long illness. The second half is all schemes and the villains are thin, but go.
- [*Sonic the Hedgehog 3*](https://film.one/film/sonic-the-hedgehog-3.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 61 · PG · 1h 50m · Action/Science Fiction · on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+
Jeff Fowler’s third Sonic film is louder and a little better than the two before it, chiefly because Jim Carrey plays both Robotniks and is allowed to run. Around him is a fast, competent family film that tries for grief and settles for volume.
- [*The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim*](https://film.one/film/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-war-of-the-rohirrim.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 55 · PG-13 · 2h 14m · Animation/Fantasy · on HBO Max
Kenji Kamiyama’s hand-drawn prequel has a good king, a decent daughter and a siege that runs out of things to do in the snow. Handsome in stretches, borrowed in others, and not enough of a film to send anyone to on its own.
- [*Kraven the Hunter*](https://film.one/film/kraven-the-hunter.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 41 · R · 2h 07m · Action/Adventure · on Netflix
J.C. Chandor stages two or three fights with real weight, and Russell Crowe and Alessandro Nivola enjoy themselves as men who deserve a better film. Around them is a script that explains everything twice and a lion that never once looks like one.
- [*Gladiator II*](https://film.one/film/gladiator-ii.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 64 · R · 2h 28m · Action/Adventure · on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+
Ridley Scott has made his own film again, louder and with sharks. It is handsome and rarely dull, but Paul Mescal is given a grudge where a character should be, and only Denzel Washington seems to know what kind of film he is in.
- [*Red One*](https://film.one/film/red-one.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 44 · PG-13 · 2h 04m · Action/Adventure · on Amazon Prime Video
Jake Kasdan turns the North Pole into a security agency and Santa into a hostage, and J.K. Simmons is the only person on screen who seems to think Christmas is worth saving. A big, grey, joyless machine with one warm bulb in it.
- [*Venom: The Last Dance*](https://film.one/film/venom-the-last-dance.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 48 · PG-13 · 1h 49m · Science Fiction/Action · on Disney+
Tom Hardy still makes two people out of one and their bickering is still the best thing in the series. Kelly Marcel, directing for the first time, keeps interrupting it for soldiers, scientists and an alien plot nobody on screen seems to believe in.
- [*Rebel Ridge*](https://film.one/film/rebel-ridge.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 75 · R · 2h 11m · Crime/Action · on Netflix
Jeremy Saulnier’s small-town thriller is best when nobody raises their voice, and Aaron Pierre never does. The first hour is as tight as anything Saulnier has made; the second sits down to explain the plot, and some of the tension goes with it.
- [*Borderlands*](https://film.one/film/borderlands.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 32 · PG-13 · 1h 41m · Action/Science Fiction · on Peacock
Eli Roth’s *Borderlands* wastes an energetic Cate Blanchett on muddled shootouts and jokes that scarcely register. There is colour in the costumes, but little pleasure in spending 101 minutes with this underwritten company.
