# Crime films

Crime films are about wanting what you should not have, and about the company you keep to get it. The bad ones make the criminals glamorous and stop there. The good ones make them good company and then, slowly, let us see what that company costs, without a speech about it. That is what we are scoring: does the film know its people are appalling, and does it keep us at the table anyway? Our shelf leans towards the 1990s, and towards Scorsese and Soderbergh, who both make the getting look easy and the keeping look hard.

Start with [M](/film/m) (94), where Fritz Lang makes a child murderer pitiable without letting him off; [GoodFellas](/film/goodfellas) (93), which we would recommend to almost anyone who can stand the people; and [Chinatown](/film/chinatown) (93), a detective story for readers who usually avoid them. After those, try Taxi Driver, which makes one lonely man frightening to sit beside, or Some Like It Hot, where the gangsters keep interrupting a farce.

For US. 548 titles; 60 listed here. Add `?region=XX` for another country.

- [*Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother*](https://film.one/film/your-mother-your-mother-your-mother.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 77 · R · 1h 51m · Drama/Crime
Bassam Tariq’s crime drama is worth seeing for Mahershala Ali’s tender, troubled father. The search for breast milk gives it an urgent purpose, though abrupt changes in tone and underwritten women keep it from working throughout.
- [*The Weight*](https://film.one/film/the-weight.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 66 · R · 1h 52m · Drama/Thriller
Padraic McKinley’s debut is a plain, wet, old-fashioned adventure about men carrying gold through a forest, and Ethan Hawke, saying almost nothing, holds it together. The script gives him too little company, and the ending gives him too easy a road.
- [*The Girl in the River*](https://film.one/film/the-girl-in-the-river.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 31 · 1h 32m · Crime/Thriller
Brando Benetton’s small-town mystery has a body in the river, a list of suspects and a script that explains each of them three times. Devon Sawa does careful, quiet work in a film that does not deserve him; the rest is waiting.
- [*By Any Means*](https://film.one/film/by-any-means.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 52 · R · 1h 47m · History/Crime
Elegance Bratton’s crime drama gives Yahya Abdul-Mateen II a compromised partnership worth exploring, then lets Mark Wahlberg’s excesses dominate it. The occasional jolt cannot compensate for thin characters and a reluctance to question the violence.
- [*Just Play Dead*](https://film.one/film/just-play-dead.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 31 · R · 1h 37m · Thriller/Crime
Martin Campbell reunites with Eva Green for a crime comedy that plays like something found at the back of a video shop in 1998. It looks expensive and moves briskly, and Samuel L. Jackson enjoys himself; nobody else does, us included.
- [*Idiots*](https://film.one/film/idiots.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 62 · R · 1h 40m · Comedy/Crime
Macon Blair’s road comedy has two funny leads and one nasty idea about the teenager in their back seat. For an hour it is a treat. Then it plays the idea and never settles what kind of film it wants to be afterwards.
- [*Motor City*](https://film.one/film/motor-city.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 68 · R · 1h 44m · Action/Thriller
Potsy Ponciroli’s revenge thriller strips out the dialogue and lets the soundtrack carry it, and for an hour that is a good trick. The action is brutal and well staged; the story beneath it is thin, and the film loses its nerve at the end.
- [*Barrio Triste*](https://film.one/film/barrio-triste.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 56 · 1h 24m · Crime/Drama
STILLZ hands a stolen Betacam to a gang of boys in 1980s Medellín and the faces that come back are hard to forget. The film around them is thin, loud and undecided about what it is for, and 84 minutes feels long.
- [*The Furious*](https://film.one/film/the-furious.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 82 · R · 1h 53m · Action/Crime
Kenji Tanigaki’s *The Furious* earns our recommendation through inventive, punishing fights and the clarity with which it shows them. The thin kidnapping story and awkward dialogue matter, but they seldom get long enough to spoil the evening.
- [*Carolina Caroline*](https://film.one/film/carolina-caroline.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 79 · R · 1h 47m · Crime/Drama
The critical consensus favours Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner’s tender, funny partnership. A familiar lovers-on-the-run story earns a qualified recommendation for its romance, with less enthusiasm for the heavier drama.
- [*I Love Boosters*](https://film.one/film/i-love-boosters.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 64 · R · 1h 53m · Comedy/Science Fiction
Boots Riley’s second film is loud, bright and often funny, and Keke Palmer holds it together for as long as anyone could. Then the science fiction arrives, and the argument about work and theft gets lost in the machinery.
- [*Tuner*](https://film.one/film/tuner.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 74 · R · 1h 48m · Crime/Drama
Daniel Roher’s first fiction film puts a piano tuner’s ears to work on locks, and the sound design makes every click count. The story is one we have heard before, but Woodall, Hoffman and Liu play it as if nobody had.
- [*LifeHack*](https://film.one/film/lifehack.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 67 · R · 1h 37m · Thriller/Crime
Ronan Corrigan’s first feature is a heist told entirely on screens, and for an hour it is quick, funny and cleverer than its gimmick. Then the windows pile up, the pace stops being a pleasure and we found ourselves watching a progress bar. Good, not more.
- [*Wasteman*](https://film.one/film/wasteman.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 72 · R · 1h 31m · Crime/Drama · on MUBI
Cal McMau’s debut locks David Jonsson and Tom Blyth in a cell together, and the two of them are worth the ticket. The story around them is the one prison films always tell, and the violence makes its point early and keeps making it.
- [*The Christophers*](https://film.one/film/the-christophers.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 74 · R · 1h 40m · Crime/Comedy · on Hulu
Soderbergh’s small comedy about a painter and the woman hired to paint like him is good whenever it is just McKellen and Coel in a room. The children are drawn in crayon and the scheme does not quite add up, but the room is worth an evening.
- [*Scream 7*](https://film.one/film/scream-7.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 48 · R · 1h 54m · Horror/Mystery · on Paramount+
Kevin Williamson directs his own script at last, Neve Campbell is back and on form, and the film around them is the least sharp the series has produced. Competent murders in the dark, suspects you will spot from the sofa. For the faithful, and only just.
- [*Crime 101*](https://film.one/film/crime-101.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 67 · R · 2h 21m · Crime/Thriller · on Amazon Prime Video
Bart Layton’s Los Angeles heist film is handsomely built, patiently paced and cast far better than it needed to be. It has also watched *Heat* a great many times, and at 141 minutes we felt each viewing.
- [*The Rip*](https://film.one/film/the-rip.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 65 · R · 1h 53m · Action/Thriller · on Netflix
Joe Carnahan puts Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and a room full of cash in a Miami house for one long night, and for an hour it grips. Then the door keeps opening, the script keeps explaining, and the tension leaks out with each new arrival.
- [*Dead Man's Wire*](https://film.one/film/dead-mans-wire.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 70 · R · 1h 46m · Crime/Drama · on Netflix
Gus Van Sant’s account of the 1977 Kiritsis siege is a tight, sweaty, funny two-hander, and Bill Skarsgård is the reason to see it. What it thinks about the man and the country that made him, it mostly leaves to us.
- [*Father Joe*](https://film.one/film/father-joe.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 55 · 1h 56m · Action/Crime
Luc Besson’s script gives Kiefer Sutherland a collar and a gun and little else. Sutherland plays it dead straight, which is the film’s best joke and its only real idea; around him the violence is loud, the humour flat and the picture oddly cheap.
- [*No Other Choice*](https://film.one/film/no-other-choice.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 78 · R · 2h 19m · Comedy/Crime · on Hulu
Park Chan-wook turns Westlake’s novel about a laid-off man killing his rivals for a job into a broad, exact black comedy, and Lee Byung-hun is superb in it. It runs long, it repeats itself, and the pictures carry it whenever the script does not.
- [*The Secret Agent*](https://film.one/film/the-secret-agent.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 84 · R · 2h 41m · Thriller/Drama
Kleber Mendonça Filho’s thriller about a hunted man in Recife in 1977 is funny, frightening and made with great care, and Wagner Moura holds it together by hardly moving. It is also long, and the present-day scenes are where you feel it.
- [*Now You See Me: Now You Don't*](https://film.one/film/now-you-see-me-now-you-dont.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 57 · PG-13 · 1h 52m · Crime/Thriller · on Starz
Ruben Fleischer’s third Horsemen film is quick, glossy and busy, and Rosamund Pike is having a wonderful time as the villain. But it explains every illusion the moment it is over, and a trick you are told about afterwards has not fooled anyone.
- [*It Was Just an Accident*](https://film.one/film/it-was-just-an-accident.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 84 · PG-13 · 1h 43m · Drama/Thriller · on Hulu
Jafar Panahi, filming without permission after his own spell in prison, puts a torturer in the back of a van and lets his victims argue over him for a hundred minutes. It is funny, frightening and morally serious, and it talks a little too much.
- [*Roofman*](https://film.one/film/roofman.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 68 · R · 2h 06m · Crime/Comedy · on Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+
Derek Cianfrance’s true story of the robber who lived inside a Toys R Us for six months is warm, funny and well acted, and Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst are good company. It is also far too keen that we like him.
- [*One Battle After Another*](https://film.one/film/one-battle-after-another.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 87 · R · 2h 42m · Thriller/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max
Paul Thomas Anderson turns Thomas Pynchon into a chase film, and it is the fastest, funniest thing he has made. It runs 162 minutes and earns most of them; the villains are cartoons.
- [*Caught Stealing*](https://film.one/film/caught-stealing.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 68 · R · 1h 47m · Crime/Thriller · on Netflix
Aronofsky’s lightest film in years is a fast, dirty, frequently funny chase round a 1998 New York that looks lived in rather than dressed. Austin Butler makes a likeable punchbag. It is good company for 107 minutes and gone by morning.
- [*The Thursday Murder Club*](https://film.one/film/the-thursday-murder-club.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 57 · PG-13 · 1h 58m · Comedy/Mystery · on Netflix
Chris Columbus gives Richard Osman’s retirees a cast most directors would wait a career for and then forgets to make the murder matter. Mirren, Brosnan, Kingsley and Imrie are excellent company; the mystery they are solving is not.
- [*Americana*](https://film.one/film/americana.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 64 · R · 1h 47m · Crime/Western · on Hulu
*Americana* is a watchable crime western whose actors do more convincing work than its writing. The humour and sympathy survive, but awkward dialogue and uncertain handling of violence make it a qualified recommendation for genre enthusiasts.
- [*The Naked Gun*](https://film.one/film/the-naked-gun.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 77 · PG-13 · 1h 25m · Comedy/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video
Akiva Schaffer’s revival keeps the old rule that nobody on screen may know they are in a comedy, and Liam Neeson obeys it to the letter. The gags come fast and thin out late, but enough of them land.
- [*Eddington*](https://film.one/film/eddington.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 64 · R · 2h 28m · Western/Comedy · on HBO Max
Ari Aster’s small-town western sets a sheriff against a mayor in the summer of 2020 and is sharply funny about phones, masks and men who are certain they are right. Then it starts shooting.
- [*Ballerina*](https://film.one/film/ballerina.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 58 · R · 2h 05m · Action/Thriller · on HBO Max
Ana de Armas earns the franchise and Len Wiseman’s film spends its first hour explaining why. Once the talking stops and the flamethrowers come out, it is the fun it should have been all along; getting there is a slog.
- [*The Phoenician Scheme*](https://film.one/film/the-phoenician-scheme.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 70 · PG-13 · 1h 42m · Comedy/Adventure · on Amazon Prime Video
Wes Anderson gives Benicio del Toro a fortune, a daughter and a great many enemies, and gets back the best performance in one of his films for years. The film around him is handsome, funny in bursts, and for too long one meeting after another.
- [*A Working Man*](https://film.one/film/a-working-man.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 41 · R · 1h 56m · Action/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video
Jason Statham remains watchable in a rescue thriller dragged down by repeated fights, tangled plotting and leaden dialogue. David Harbour supplies welcome humour, but we cannot recommend spending 116 minutes waiting for the film to relax.
- [*Santosh*](https://film.one/film/santosh.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 76 · R · 2h 08m · Thriller/Crime
Sandhya Suri makes an absorbing police drama about two women working inside an institution that rewards prejudice. Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar give it human weight, though the writing grows too eager to explain what their performances already show.
- [*The Order*](https://film.one/film/the-order.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 75 · R · 1h 56m · Crime/Drama · on Hulu
Justin Kurzel’s account of the 1983 hunt for a white-supremacist gang in the Pacific Northwest is a lean, well-made procedural with a frightening Nicholas Hoult at its centre. Jude Law’s agent is a type we have met many times, and the film knows it.
- [*The Seed of the Sacred Fig*](https://film.one/film/the-seed-of-the-sacred-fig.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 80 · PG-13 · 2h 47m · Drama/Thriller · on Hulu
Mohammad Rasoulof’s drama about a Tehran judge whose household cracks along with the country during the 2022 protests is as tense as any thriller for two hours, carried by Soheila Golestani. It is 167 minutes long, and we would have taken twenty of them away.
- [*Joker: Folie à Deux*](https://film.one/film/joker-folie-a-deux.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 54 · R · 2h 18m · Drama/Crime
Todd Phillips’s sequel has one honest idea, that Arthur Fleck was never the man his fans wanted him to be, and spends 138 minutes and a dozen borrowed songs saying it. Phoenix and Gaga are worth watching; the courtroom is not.
- [*Rebel Ridge*](https://film.one/film/rebel-ridge.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 75 · R · 2h 11m · Crime/Action · on Netflix
Jeremy Saulnier’s small-town thriller is best when nobody raises their voice, and Aaron Pierre never does. The first hour is as tight as anything Saulnier has made; the second sits down to explain the plot, and some of the tension goes with it.
- [*Trap*](https://film.one/film/trap.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 58 · PG-13 · 1h 45m · Crime/Horror · on Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max
Shyamalan hands Josh Hartnett a serial killer with a teenage daughter and a pop concert ringed by police, and for an hour it is a sly, funny cat-and-mouse. Then the film leaves the building, and most of the plotting goes with it.
- [*Longlegs*](https://film.one/film/longlegs.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 72 · R · 1h 41m · Crime/Horror · on Hulu
Osgood Perkins’ FBI horror is as frightening as its reputation for most of its length, thanks to Andres Arochi’s boxed-in frames and a Nicolas Cage kept wisely scarce. Then it stops to explain itself, and the fear goes out of it.
- [*The Bikeriders*](https://film.one/film/the-bikeriders.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 68 · R · 1h 56m · Crime/Drama
Jeff Nichols’s biker film is beautifully dressed and lit, and Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy give it more life than the script does. But the man at its centre is a pose rather than a person, and the film keeps us at the length of a tape recorder’s cable.
- [*Bad Boys: Ride or Die*](https://film.one/film/bad-boys-ride-or-die.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 60 · R · 1h 56m · Action/Comedy · on Hulu
The fourth *Bad Boys* runs on Martin Lawrence and a handful of well-built set pieces. Around them Chris Bremner and Will Beall have piled a corruption plot, a prison break and a family reunion that nobody on screen seems to care about, and neither did we.
- [*Hit Man*](https://film.one/film/hit-man.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 74 · R · 1h 56m · Comedy/Romance · on Netflix
Glen Powell gives himself a dozen men to play and is good as all of them, and Adria Arjona matches him. Linklater’s comedy is warm, funny and well made; it turns dark late on and keeps smiling, which we found harder to like.
- [*Monkey Man*](https://film.one/film/monkey-man.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 72 · R · 2h 02m · Thriller/Crime
Dev Patel’s first film as director is angry, bloody and made with real feeling for the city it invents. The fights land hard; the story around them wanders and repeats itself. Worth your evening if a revenge film is what you are after.
- [*Dogman*](https://film.one/film/dogman-2023.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 54 · R · 1h 55m · Action/Drama
Caleb Landry Jones gives the whole of himself to a lonely man in a wheelchair who robs the rich with dogs and sings Piaf in a wig, and Luc Besson does not know what to do with him. Odd, watchable, and thinner than it looks.
- [*Love Lies Bleeding*](https://film.one/film/love-lies-bleeding.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 75 · R · 1h 44m · Crime/Romance
Rose Glass follows *Saint Maud* with a sweaty desert noir about a gym manager, a bodybuilder and a great deal of blood. For an hour it is the best kind of pulp; then it gets bigger, louder and less interesting, though never dull.
- [*Drive-Away Dolls*](https://film.one/film/drive-away-dolls.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 60 · R · 1h 24m · Comedy/Crime
Ethan Coen’s first film without his brother is a brisk, bawdy road comedy with two likeable leads, one loud ex-girlfriend and a plot that would fit on a motel napkin. It is fun for 84 minutes and gone by morning.
- [*The Beekeeper*](https://film.one/film/the-beekeeper.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 60 · R · 1h 46m · Action/Adventure
David Ayer’s revenge thriller hands Jason Statham a cap, a jerry can and a grievance, and he is exactly as good as the job requires. The film around him is clean, brutal and dim, and it explains its one metaphor until it wears through.
- [*Eileen*](https://film.one/film/eileen.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 68 · R · 1h 38m · Thriller/Crime
William Oldroyd’s adaptation of Ottessa Moshfegh’s novel is a handsome, slow, funny study of a young woman’s longing, with Anne Hathaway as the object and Thomasin McKenzie doing the longing. The last third changes genre, and then the film stops rather than ends.
- [*The Killer*](https://film.one/film/the-killer.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 72 · R · 1h 58m · Crime/Thriller
Fincher’s hitman film is lean, cold and drier than it first looks, with Michael Fassbender reciting his own rules over a Smiths soundtrack. The craft is immaculate, one fight is worth the evening on its own, and there is not much underneath.
- [*Killers of the Flower Moon*](https://film.one/film/killers-of-the-flower-moon.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 86 · R · 3h 26m · Crime/History
Scorsese’s account of the Osage murders is long, plain and appalling in the right way: it shows the killings in daylight and tells us who did them from the start. Lily Gladstone holds it together, and it is weaker when she is off screen.
- [*Anatomy of a Fall*](https://film.one/film/anatomy-of-a-fall.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 86 · R · 2h 31m · Thriller/Mystery · on Netflix
Justine Triet’s courtroom drama refuses to say whether Sandra Hüller’s novelist pushed her husband, and is the better for it. Hüller is remarkable, the script is exact, and the 151 minutes could lose ten without anyone noticing.
- [*A Haunting in Venice*](https://film.one/film/a-haunting-in-venice.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 65 · PG-13 · 1h 44m · Mystery/Thriller
Branagh’s third Poirot is his best: one leaking palazzo, one stormy night, a camera that leans at everything. The mood holds for an hour; the mystery underneath it is thin, its clues obvious and its solution rushed through in a single room.
- [*The Equalizer 3*](https://film.one/film/the-equalizer-3.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 60 · R · 1h 49m · Action/Thriller · on HBO Max, Hulu
Denzel Washington’s third turn as Robert McCall is a handsome, slow, savage holiday in a small Italian town. He is as watchable as ever; the film around him has run out of ideas and makes up the difference in blood.
- [*Fast X*](https://film.one/film/fast-x.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 58 · PG-13 · 2h 22m · Action/Crime · on Peacock
Louis Leterrier takes over the tenth *Fast & Furious* film and gives Jason Momoa the keys. He is a joy, the Rome set piece is a proper one, and around them the film splits into three and finishes none of them.
- [*John Wick: Chapter 4*](https://film.one/film/john-wick-chapter-4.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 74 · R · 2h 50m · Action/Thriller
The fourth John Wick contains four or five action sequences as clear, inventive and painful as anything the genre has managed in years, and around them an hour of candlelit men explaining rules. Worth the evening, and worth an interval.
- [*Scream VI*](https://film.one/film/scream-vi.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 65 · R · 2h 03m · Horror/Thriller · on Netflix, Paramount+
The sixth *Scream* takes the killer to New York and gives him a shotgun, and two of its set pieces are the series’ best in years. The talk between them is tired, and the mystery it builds towards is its weakest.
- [*Cocaine Bear*](https://film.one/film/cocaine-bear.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 60 · R · 1h 35m · Thriller/Comedy · on Peacock
Elizabeth Banks’s creature comedy does what the title says roughly once every twenty minutes, and does it well. In between, a good cast stands about in a sunlit forest waiting for the next attack, and so did we.
- [*Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery*](https://film.one/film/glass-onion-a-knives-out-mystery.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 72 · PG-13 · 2h 20m · Comedy/Crime · on Netflix
Rian Johnson’s second Benoit Blanc mystery is bigger, sunnier and more elaborately built than the first, and Janelle Monáe gives it something to care about. It is also 140 minutes long, aims its satire at the easiest targets available, and explains its cleverness twice.
