## Biography

Abner Warren Biberman (1 April 1909 – 20 June 1977) was an American actor, director and screenwriter. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he attended the University of Pennsylvania and gained early stage experience with the Group Theatre in New York before moving to Hollywood in 1938.

He appeared in character roles in more than 100 films, often as heavies or in foreign-nationality parts. His credits include *Gunga Din* (1939), *His Girl Friday* (1940) as Louie, *The Roaring Twenties* (1939), *Winchester '73* (1950) and *Viva Zapata!* (1952). He also worked as an acting coach at Universal Pictures.

From the mid-1950s Biberman directed feature films such as *The Golden Mistress* (1954) and turned to television, directing episodes of series including *The Twilight Zone*, *Gilligan's Island*, *The Virginian*, *Ironside* and *Hawaii Five-O*.
