## Biography

Akihiko Hirata was a Japanese film actor. He studied law at the University of Tokyo and made his screen debut in 1953.

Hirata appeared in numerous Toho productions, including Hiroshi Inagaki's Samurai trilogy. He is best known for his role as Dr. Daisuke Serizawa in *Godzilla* (1954) and for other kaiju films such as *King Kong vs. Godzilla* (1962), *Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster* (1964) and *Terror of Mechagodzilla* (1975).

He was married to actress Yoshiko Kuga from 1961 until his death in 1984.
