## Biography

Al Reinert was an American journalist, screenwriter, director and producer. Born in Tokyo in 1947 to American parents, he grew up in Texas, attended Texas A&M University and began his career as a reporter for the Houston Chronicle, where he covered NASA in the 1970s.

Reinert directed and produced the 1989 documentary *For All Mankind*, assembled from NASA Apollo footage. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1995 film *Apollo 13* with William Broyles Jr., earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also contributed to the 1998 HBO miniseries *From the Earth to the Moon* and co-wrote the screenplay for *Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within* (2001).

Reinert died of cancer on 31 December 2018 at his home in Wimberley, Texas.
