## Biography

Al Ruban is an American cinematographer, producer and editor. He began working in film with director John Cassavetes on *Shadows* (1959) as a camera operator and later edited *Faces* (1968).

Ruban served as producer, cinematographer and actor on several Cassavetes films, including *A Woman Under the Influence* (1974) and *The Killing of a Chinese Bookie* (1976), on which he also played the role of Marty Reitz. He contributed to *Opening Night* (1977) as producer and cinematographer, and worked on later Cassavetes projects such as *Love Streams* (1984). He established Faces Distribution to handle the release of several of the director’s independent films.
