## Biography

Alan Campbell was an American screenwriter and actor. Born in Richmond, Virginia, he graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and moved to New York, where he acted on the Broadway stage and contributed prose to The New Yorker.

In 1934 he married writer Dorothy Parker; they collaborated on several screenplays, including the 1937 film *A Star Is Born*, for which Campbell, Parker and Robert Carson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Their other credits include *The Little Foxes* (1941) and *Woman on the Run* (1950). Campbell served as a captain in US Army Intelligence during the Second World War.

Campbell and Parker divorced in 1947 and remarried in 1950. He died in West Hollywood, California, in 1963.
