## Biography

Alan Hale Jr. was an American actor. He was the son of character actor Alan Hale and began appearing in films as a child before taking adult roles from the 1940s onward.

He appeared in numerous Westerns and supporting parts in feature films, including *Silver Lode* (1954) and *Hang 'em High* (1968). Hale is best known for playing Captain Jonas Grumby, known as the Skipper, in the television series *Gilligan's Island* (1964–1967) and its subsequent television films and spin-offs. He also had guest roles in series such as *Bonanza*, *Murder, She Wrote* and *Magnum, P.I.*.
