## Biography

Alan Ladd (1913–1964), also credited as Alan Walbridge Ladd, was an American actor. He is best known for his title role in the Western *Shane* (1953). He also starred in *This Gun for Hire* (1942), *The Glass Key* (1942) and *The Blue Dahlia* (1946).

Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Ladd appeared in numerous films from the 1940s onwards, often in leading roles in crime dramas and Westerns. He was the father of producer Alan Ladd Jr.
