## Biography

Alan Osbiston (7 May 1914 – 1971) was an Australian-born British film editor. He began his career working for Cinesound in Sydney before joining the British Ministry of Information during the Second World War. He later edited numerous British and international feature films.

Osbiston is best known for his work on *The Guns of Navarone* (1961), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing. His other credits include *An Inspector Calls* (1954), *Time Without Pity* (1957), *The Entertainer* (1960), *Lord Jim* (1965), *The Wrong Box* (1966), *Billion Dollar Brain* (1967), *The Night of the Generals* (1967) and *Play Dirty* (1969). He was married to Lyla Cranston and was a cousin of the Australian actor Max Osbiston.
