## Biography

Albert Akst (1899–1958) was an American film editor. He began his career as a musician, playing saxophone in the Meyer Davis Orchestra and in vaudeville until 1930, before joining Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a cutter of short subjects and advancing to feature-film editor.

Akst edited more than fifty films, many of them MGM musicals and dramas. His credits include *Meet Me in St. Louis* (1944), *Easter Parade* (1948), *The Band Wagon* (1953), *Brigadoon* (1954) and *Somebody Up There Likes Me* (1956). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing for the last of these.
