## Biography

Albert Hague (born Albert Marcuse) was a German-born American songwriter and actor. Born in Berlin in 1920, he fled Nazi Germany in 1937, studied at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and served in the US military during the Second World War. He established a career as a Broadway composer, writing scores for musicals including Plain and Fancy (1955) and Redhead (1959), the latter earning him a Tony Award.

Hague took up acting later in life. He originated the role of music teacher Benjamin Shorofsky in the 1980 film Fame and reprised it in the NBC television series (1982–1983) and its syndicated continuation (1983–1987). He appeared in other screen roles, including a psychiatrist in Space Jam (1996) and Dr. Siegler in The Story of Us (1999). Hague died in Marina del Rey, California, in 2001.
