## Biography

Albert Lewin (1894–1968) was an American film producer, screenwriter and director. He began his Hollywood career in the early 1920s as a reader for Samuel Goldwyn and joined MGM in 1924 as a screenwriter. He rose to head of the studio’s script department and became a close associate of Irving Thalberg, serving as associate producer on several major MGM films of the 1930s, including *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935) and *The Good Earth* (1937).

After Thalberg’s death, Lewin moved to Paramount in 1937, where he produced *The Lady Eve* (1941) among other films. He began directing in 1942 and made six features, writing the screenplays for all of them. His directorial credits include *The Picture of Dorian Gray* (1945) and *Pandora and the Flying Dutchman* (1951).
