## Biography

Albert Mannheimer (9 March 1913 – 19 March 1972) was an American screenwriter. Born in New York City, he wrote or contributed to numerous films from the late 1930s onwards, including *Dulcy* (1940), *Whistling in the Dark* (1941), *Song of the Open Road* (1944) and *Three Daring Daughters* (1948).

Mannheimer received a screenplay credit on the 1950 comedy *Born Yesterday*, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award; the script also won a Writers Guild of America award for Best Written American Comedy. His other credits include the adaptation for *Bloodhounds of Broadway* (1952) and episodes of the television series *Gidget*. He studied at Yale and worked as a theatre critic and playwright early in his career.
