## Biography

Alberto Albani Barbieri was an Italian screenwriter, assistant director and film critic. He was born in Ancona on 22 May 1907 and died there on 21 March 1984.

After graduating in law, he worked as a film critic for the Roman newspaper La Tribuna from 1928 to 1939 and contributed to other publications including Fotogrammi. He held roles at Cines and the foreign film monopoly before entering screenwriting.

His debut as a screenwriter and dialogue writer came with Incanto di mezzanotte (1940). Post-war he contributed to around a dozen films, often in collaboration with directors such as Mario Costa and sometimes as assistant director. He appeared uncredited as Antonia's friend in Vittorio De Sica's Umberto D. (1952) and in a minor role in Il giudizio universale (1961). He left film work after 1961.
