## Biography

Albin Grau was a German artist, architect and film production designer. He co-founded the short-lived Prana Film studio with Enrico Dieckmann and served as producer, production designer, art director and costume designer on F. W. Murnau’s *Nosferatu* (1922).

Grau was largely responsible for the film’s visual style, including the sets, costumes, storyboards and promotional materials. He also contributed to the design of Count Orlok. The studio produced only this one film before declaring bankruptcy following a lawsuit over its unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s *Dracula*.

Grau worked on a small number of other productions in the 1920s, including *Schatten* (1923), for which he again designed sets and costumes. He was also a lifelong student of the occult.
