## Biography

Aldo Scavarda (22 August 1923 – 6 May 2000) was an Italian cinematographer. Born in Turin, he began his career as a camera operator in the early 1950s before becoming a director of photography in the late 1950s.

He is known for his work on Michelangelo Antonioni's *L'Avventura* (1960) and Bernardo Bertolucci's *Before the Revolution* (1964). Scavarda also photographed films for directors including Mauro Bolognini, Luigi Comencini and Salvatore Samperi. In 1969 he received the Nastro d'Argento for best black-and-white cinematography on Samperi's *Grazie, zia* (also known as *Come Play with Me*).

In 1975 he directed his only feature, *La linea del fiume*, which won the Golden Gryphon at the Giffoni Film Festival in 1976. He also worked as a producer on several films.
