## Biography

Aleksandr Levshin (1899–1982) was a Soviet film director and assistant director. Born in the Tambov district of the Russian Empire, he began his career in the 1920s working with Sergei Eisenstein.

He served as assistant director on *Strike* (1925) and *Battleship Potemkin* (1925), in which he also appeared as a Petty Officer. He later directed *Kitayskaya melnitsa* (1928) and *Perepolokh* (1929).

Levshin continued as an assistant director on numerous Soviet productions into the 1950s and 1960s, including *Tanya* (1940), *The Court of Honor* (1949) and *Zhestokost* (1959).
