## Biography

Alevise Orfanelli (also credited as Alvise Orfanelli or ألفيس أورفانيللي) was an Italian cinematographer who worked extensively in Egyptian cinema. Born in 1901, he settled in Alexandria, Egypt, where he began his career in 1917. He was involved in the founding of the Italian Cinematographic Society there and later established his own studio.

Orfanelli shot numerous Egyptian films from the 1920s onwards and also directed several features in the late 1930s. He collaborated with director Youssef Chahine on *Son of the Nile* (1951), *Only Women* (1953) and *Cairo Station* (1958). He died in 1961.
