## Biography

Alex McAvoy (10 March 1928 – 16 June 2005) was a Scottish actor. Born in Glasgow, he trained at the School of Art there and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before joining the Citizens Theatre in the Gorbals. He later studied mime at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris.

He began in variety as foil to Andy Stewart and appeared in Scottish pantomime. On television he played Sunny Jim in the BBC Scotland series *The Vital Spark* (1965–1974) and had roles in *Dad's Army* (1972–1973), *Z-Cars* and *The Bill*. His film credits include *Country Dance* (1970), the Teacher in *Pink Floyd – The Wall* (1982), *Venus Peter* (1989) and *Strictly Sinatra* (2001). He also appeared in Pink Floyd's *The Final Cut* video EP (1983).
