## Biography

Alexis Minotis (born Alexandros Minotakis; 8 August 1900 – 11 November 1990) was a Greek actor and theatre director. He was born in Deliana, Chania, Crete, and began his stage career in his native region before moving to Athens. From 1925 to 1930 he collaborated with Marika Kotopouli, appearing in Shakespearean roles including Hamlet, the first production of the play in Greece. In 1940 he married actress Katina Paxinou; the couple worked together at the National Theatre of Greece.

Minotis appeared in several Hollywood films in the 1940s and 1950s. He played Joseph in Alfred Hitchcock's *Notorious* (1946), Lt. Acosta in *The Chase* (1946), and roles in *Land of the Pharaohs* (1955) and *Boy on a Dolphin* (1957). He also directed ancient Greek tragedies and other classical works for the stage.
