## Biography

Alex Norton (born 27 January 1950) is a Scottish actor. He was one of the founder members of the 7:84 theatre company and toured Scotland in the 1970s with *The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black Black Oil*. He trained informally through theatre work before moving into television and film.

Norton played Watt in the 1983 film *Local Hero* and McAngus, Duke of Argyll in the 1983 series *The Black Adder*. He is known for his role as DCI Matt Burke in the STV series *Taggart* (2002–2010) and as Eric Baird in the BBC sitcom *Two Doors Down* (2013–present). He has appeared in Bill Forsyth films including *Gregory's Girl* (1981) and *Comfort and Joy* (1984), as well as *Braveheart* (1995), *Patriot Games* (1992) and *The Count of Monte Cristo* (2002).
