## Biography

Alexander Grasshoff (also credited as Alex Grasshoff) was an American documentary filmmaker and television director. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in cinema and began his career in the mail room at Paramount Pictures in 1951, later working as an editor.

He directed the documentary *Young Americans* (1967), which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature that was later revoked on eligibility grounds; he received two further Oscar nominations for *The Really Big Family* (1966) and *Journey to the Outer Limits* (1973). Grasshoff also directed *Future Shock* (1972) and the award-winning television film *The Wave* (1981). His television credits include episodes of *The Rockford Files* (1974), *Kolchak: The Night Stalker* (1974) and other series in the 1970s and early 1980s. He died in Los Angeles in 2008.
