## Biography

Alfonso Gatto (17 July 1909 – 8 March 1976) was an Italian poet, writer, art critic and occasional actor. Born in Salerno, he appeared in a small number of films from the 1940s to the 1970s, often in supporting roles.

He is known for playing Andrea in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s *The Gospel According to St. Matthew* (1964), the Doctor in Pasolini’s *Theorem* (1968), and Nocio in Francesco Rosi’s *Illustrious Corpses* (1976). He also appeared in *Caro Michele* (1976) and earlier in *Outcry* (1946).

Gatto died in a car accident near Orbetello, Tuscany.
