## Biography

Alfred Lynch (also credited as Alfred Cornelius Lynch) was an English actor who worked in theatre, film and television. Born in Whitechapel, London, he trained as a draughtsman before national service and began acting through evening classes. In 1958 he joined the Royal Court Theatre, appearing in productions including plays by Arnold Wesker.

From the early 1960s his career expanded into film and television. Notable screen roles include George Stevens in *The Hill* (1965), Tranio in *The Taming of the Shrew* (1967), and Charlie Kray Snr in *The Krays* (1990). On television he played Commander Millington in the *Doctor Who* serial *The Curse of Fenric* (1989) and appeared in series such as *Lovejoy* and *Second Best* (1994).

Lynch's long-term partner was actor James Culliford. He died of cancer in 2003.
