## Biography

Ali Asad is a British cinematographer of Syrian origin. Born on 11 October 1961 in Salamiyya, Syria, he grew up in England. He studied painting, sculpture and art history at Goldsmiths College before completing a diploma in cinematography at the London Film School.

Asad has worked as director of photography on feature films including *Doghouse* (2009), *A Lonely Place to Die* (2011) and *Mad to Be Normal* (2017). He has collaborated repeatedly with director Julian Gilbey. On television he served as director of photography for episodes of *Doctor Who* (series 9, 2015) and the BBC series *Marriage* (2022).

His credits also include additional photography on earlier *Doctor Who* episodes and work on music videos and documentaries. He has received awards for his cinematography, including at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
