## Biography

Allan Jones (born Theodore Allen Jones) was an American actor and tenor. He appeared as Ricardo Baroni in the Marx Brothers film *A Night at the Opera* (1935) and as Gil Stewart in their follow-up *A Day at the Races* (1937). He also played Gaylord Ravenal in the 1936 film version of *Show Boat*.

Jones trained in music and performed on Broadway before signing with MGM. He later worked in other musicals including *The Firefly* (1937), appeared in stage productions such as touring companies of *Guys and Dolls* and *Man of La Mancha*, and performed in nightclubs. He was married to actress Irene Hervey; their son is the singer Jack Jones.
