Amy Acker is an American actress born on 5 December 1976 in Dallas, Texas. She earned a BFA in theatre from Southern Methodist University and began her career as a stage actress, including seasons at the American Players Theatre in Wisconsin. She also modelled for the J.Crew catalogue while in college.

Acker is known for her television roles as Winifred Burkle and Illyria on *Angel* (2001–2004), Kelly Peyton on *Alias* (2005–2006), Root on *Person of Interest* (2012–2016) and Caitlin Strucker on *The Gifted* (2017–2019). She won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2003 for her work on *Angel*.

She has been married to actor James Carpinello since 2003.
