## Biography

André Téchiné is a French film director and screenwriter. Born on 13 March 1943 in Valence-d'Agen, Tarn-et-Garonne, he began as a film critic for *Cahiers du cinéma* in the mid-1960s before moving into directing.

His early features include *Paulina s'en va* (1969) and *Souvenirs d'en France* (1975). He achieved wider recognition with *Rendez-vous* (1985), which won him the Best Director award at Cannes, and *Hôtel des Amériques* (1981).

*Wild Reeds* (1994), for which he also wrote the screenplay, won four César Awards including Best Film and Best Director. Later works include *My Favorite Season* (1993), *The Witnesses* (2007), *Being 17* (2016) and *Farewell to the Night* (2019). He has maintained a steady output of features into the 2020s.
