## Biography

Andrew Payne was a British television scriptwriter and playwright. Born in Bovey Tracey, Devon, he was educated at Denstone College and Hornsey College of Art, and began his career as a screenprinter before turning to writing.

He contributed episodes to series including *Lovejoy* (1986) and *Midsomer Murders* (1997), and wrote multiple instalments of *Minder* (1979). Payne created and was the principal writer of the detective series *Pie in the Sky* (1994), and adapted two Dick Francis novels for television. He also wrote for *DCI Banks* (2011).

Payne died on 12 January 2024.
