## Biography

Andy Lewis was an American screenwriter. Born Andrew Kittredge Lewis on 5 August 1925 in Lexington, Massachusetts, he graduated from Harvard University and began his career writing for television in the 1950s.

He contributed episodes to series including *Dr. Kildare*, *12 O’Clock High*, *The Virginian*, *The F.B.I.* and *Profiles in Courage*. Lewis frequently collaborated with his older brother David E. Lewis. Their original screenplay for the 1971 thriller *Klute*, directed by Alan J. Pakula and starring Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland, earned them a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also wrote the 1970 film *Underground*.
