Andy Tennant is an American film and television director, screenwriter and former dancer. Born on 15 June 1955 in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in Flossmoor and studied theatre at the University of Southern California. He began his career as a dancer and actor, appearing in films including *Grease* (1978) and *Grease 2* (1982).

Tennant moved into directing in the late 1980s, helming episodes of series such as *The Wonder Years* (1989–1991), *Parker Lewis Can't Lose* (1990–1991) and *Sliders* (1995). His feature directorial debut was the comedy *It Takes Two* (1995). He went on to direct romantic comedies including *Fools Rush In* (1997), *Ever After* (1998), *Sweet Home Alabama* (2002), *Hitch* (2005) and *Fool's Gold* (2008), several of which he also co-wrote.
