Born on 24 December 1956 in Mumbai, he is part of the Kapoor show-business family; his father Surinder Kapoor was a film producer and his brothers Boney and Sanjay are also in the industry. He studied at St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and trained at an acting school after an unsuccessful attempt to enter the Film and Television Institute of India.
