## Biography

Anita Loos was an American screenwriter, novelist and playwright. She began her career writing scenarios for D. W. Griffith’s Biograph Company, with her first produced script *The New York Hat* (1912). She contributed titles to Griffith’s *Intolerance* (1916) and wrote numerous silent-film scenarios before moving into sound pictures.

Loos is best known for her 1925 novel *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes*. Among her screenplays are *Red-Headed Woman* (1932), *San Francisco* (1936), *Another Thin Man* (1939) and *The Women* (1939). She also adapted Colette’s *Gigi* for the Broadway stage in 1951. She died in New York in 1981.
