## Biography

Ann Ayars was an American actress and soprano, also credited as Anne Ayars. She appeared in several non-musical films in the early 1940s, including as Mrs Sandoval in *The Human Comedy* (1943).

In 1943 she left Hollywood to join the New York City Opera, where she performed as a leading lyric soprano. Her roles included Monica in *The Medium*, Mimi in *La bohème* and Violetta in *La traviata*. She sang and acted the part of Antonia in the 1951 film *The Tales of Hoffmann*.

From 1968 to 1987 Ayars taught voice and piano at Mt. San Jacinto College in California. She staged 19 full-length opera productions there and was later made professor emerita.
