## Biography

Ann Dere (1868–1954) was an American actress. She appeared in numerous Broadway productions between 1929 and 1956, including roles in *A Streetcar Named Desire* (1947) as A Strange Woman, *Paths of Glory* (1935), *Wallflower* (1944) and *Too Late the Phalarope* (1956).

Her film work was limited. She played The Matron in the 1951 screen adaptation of *A Streetcar Named Desire* directed by Elia Kazan. She also appeared in several television anthology series in the early 1950s, such as *Lux Video Theatre* and *Robert Montgomery Presents*, and provided narration for short films.
