## Biography

Ann Roth is an American costume designer. Born on 30 October 1931 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and began her career as a scenery painter for the Pittsburgh Opera before apprenticing with Irene Sharaff.

Roth has designed costumes for more than one hundred films, including *The English Patient* (1996), for which she won an Academy Award, and *Ma Rainey's Black Bottom* (2020), for which she won a second Oscar. Other credits include *Midnight Cowboy* (1969), *Working Girl* (1988), *The Talented Mr. Ripley* (1999), *Closer* (2004), *Mamma Mia!* (2008) and *Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.* (2023). She has also worked extensively in theatre and received a Tony Award.
