## Biography

Ann Todd was an English actress and producer. She made her film debut in *Keepers of Youth* (1931) and appeared as Mary Gordon in *Things to Come* (1936).

Trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, she gained prominence in the mid-1940s with roles in *Perfect Strangers* (1945) and *The Seventh Veil* (1945). She later worked in Hollywood, playing Gay Keane in Alfred Hitchcock's *The Paradine Case* (1947).

Todd appeared in three films directed by David Lean, to whom she was married from 1949 to 1957: *The Passionate Friends* (1949), *Madeleine* (1950) and *The Sound Barrier* (1952). In later years she produced and directed travel documentaries and wrote an autobiography, *The Eighth Veil*.
