## Biography

Anna Thomas is a German-born American screenwriter and film producer. She studied film at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she made her thesis film *The Haunting of M.* (1979).

Thomas collaborated frequently with director Gregory Nava, whom she married in 1975. They co-wrote the screenplay for *El Norte* (1983), on which she also served as producer; the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Her other screenwriting credits include *My Family* (1995) and *Frida* (2002).

She is also the author of the influential vegetarian cookbook *The Vegetarian Epicure* (1972) and its sequel. Thomas has served as head of the Screenwriting discipline at the American Film Institute.
