## Biography

Anne Shirley (born Dawn Evelyeen Paris) was an American actress. She began her career as a child performer under the name Dawn O'Day and later adopted the stage name Anne Shirley after playing the title role in the 1934 film *Anne of Green Gables*.

She appeared in supporting roles in films including *Stella Dallas* (1937), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, *All That Money Can Buy* (1941) and *Murder, My Sweet* (1944). Shirley retired from acting in 1944 at the age of 26.
