## Biography

Anthony Hinds (also credited as Tony Hinds and John Elder) was an English film producer and screenwriter. The son of Hammer Film Productions founder William Hinds, he joined the company in 1946 and became a key figure in its output of gothic horror films.

He produced *The Curse of Frankenstein* (1957), *Dracula* (1958), *The Hound of the Baskervilles* (1959), *The Brides of Dracula* (1960) and *The Curse of the Werewolf* (1961). Hinds also wrote numerous screenplays for Hammer under the pseudonym John Elder, including *The Phantom of the Opera* (1962) and several later Dracula and Frankenstein entries. He was educated at St Paul's School and married Jean Knowles in 1956.

Hinds died on 30 September 2013 in Oxfordshire, England.
