## Biography

Anthony Neilson is a Scottish playwright, theatre director and screenwriter. Born in Edinburgh in 1967, he studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama before being expelled for insubordination. He won a BBC young writers' competition, which launched his writing career.

Neilson is known for his plays, including *Normal* (1991) and *The Censor* (1997), and has been associated with in-yer-face theatre, though he describes his work as experimental. He wrote an episode of the BBC series *Spooks* (2002) and wrote and directed the feature film *The Debt Collector* (1999), which won the Fipresci International Critics' Award.
