## Biography

Anthony Ross (born Rosenthal) was an American character actor who worked in theatre, film and television. Born in New York City on 23 February 1909, he graduated from Brown University and studied in France before beginning his career on Broadway in 1932.

He originated the role of the Gentleman Caller in the original 1944 production of Tennessee Williams' *The Glass Menagerie*. Ross appeared in films including *Kiss of Death* (1947), *The Gunfighter* (1950), *On Dangerous Ground* (1952) and *The Country Girl* (1954), in which he played Philip Cook. He also starred as Captain Richard Hale in the 1954 CBS series *The Telltale Clue*.

Ross died of a heart attack in New York City on 26 October 1955, aged 46.
