## Biography

Anthony Veiller (23 June 1903 – 27 June 1965) was an American screenwriter and film producer. The son of playwright and screenwriter Bayard Veiller and actress Margaret Wycherly, he was born in New York City. He studied at Antioch College and Union College before moving to Hollywood in 1930.

Veiller wrote for 41 films between 1934 and 1964. His credits include the screenplay for *Stage Door* (1937), co-written with Morrie Ryskind; *The Killers* (1946); *The Stranger* (1946); *State of the Union* (1948); *Moulin Rouge* (1952); *Solomon and Sheba* (1959); *The List of Adrian Messenger* (1963); and *The Night of the Iguana* (1964). During the Second World War he contributed to the *Why We Fight* documentary series.

He received Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay for *Stage Door* and *The Killers*. *The Killers* also won an Edgar Award.
