## Biography

Antoinette Messam is a costume designer whose credits include *Creed* (2015), *The Harder They Fall* (2021), *The Book of Clarence* (2023), *Lift* (2024) and *The Bluff* (2026). Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, she moved to Toronto at the age of seven and grew up in a family of craftspeople; her mother was a dressmaker and her grandfather a tailor.

She began her career in fashion as a model and stylist before working as a buyer on television productions and moving into costume design. Messam is recognised as the first Black Canadian costume designer. Her other film work includes *Orphan* (2009), *SuperFly* (2018), *Hold the Dark* (2018) and *Secret Headquarters* (2022). She has received four wins and four nominations for her contributions.
