## Biography

Antony Gibbs (also credited as Anthony Gibbs or Tony Gibbs) was an English film editor. Born in London in 1925, he began his career in the 1950s as an assistant to editors Ralph Kemplen and Alan Osbiston before establishing himself during the British New Wave with credits on films directed by Tony Richardson.

He held more than 40 feature film credits and collaborated extensively with directors including Norman Jewison on *Fiddler on the Roof* (1971), *Jesus Christ Superstar* (1973) and *Rollerball* (1975), and John Frankenheimer on *Ronin* (1998). Other notable works include *A Bridge Too Far* (1977) and *Dune* (1984). Gibbs relocated to California around 1970 and later edited for Mark Rydell on television projects.

He received four BAFTA nominations for Best Editing and won American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards for the miniseries *George Wallace* (1997) and the television film *James Dean* (2001), for which he also received an Emmy nomination. Gibbs was awarded the ACE Career Achievement Award in 2002 and retired after 2001.
