## Biography

Arthur Charles Miller was an American cinematographer. Born in Roslyn, New York, on 8 July 1895, he began working in film at the age of 13 as an assistant to Fred J. Balshofer. He served as cinematographer on the 1914 serial *The Perils of Pauline* and later held a long-term contract with Fox Film Corporation from 1932.

Miller received seven Academy Award nominations for cinematography and won three times, for *How Green Was My Valley* (1941), *The Song of Bernadette* (1943) and *Anna and the King of Siam* (1946). Among his other credits are *The White Parade* (1934), *The Ox-Bow Incident* (1943), *Gentleman's Agreement* (1947) and *The Gunfighter* (1950). He retired in 1951 and served as president of the American Society of Cinematographers. Miller died in Hollywood, California, on 13 July 1970.
