## Biography

Arthur Franz, also credited as Arthur Sofield Franz, was an American actor. He was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on 29 February 1920 and died in Oxnard, California, on 17 June 2006.

Franz appeared on Broadway in the early 1940s before making his screen debut in *Jungle Patrol* (1948). His notable film roles include Lt. JG H. Paynter Jr. in *The Caine Mutiny* (1954), Dr. Stuart Kelston in *Invaders from Mars* (1953) and Cpl. Robert C. Dunne in *Sands of Iwo Jima* (1950). He also had a substantial television career, with appearances in series including *Perry Mason*, *Mission: Impossible*, *Hawaii Five-O* and *The Six Million Dollar Man*.

During the Second World War, Franz served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Forces. His final film role was in *That Championship Season* (1982).
