## Biography

Arthur Honegger (10 March 1892 – 27 November 1955) was a Swiss composer born in Le Havre, France, who lived much of his life in Paris. He studied at the Zurich Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory, where his teachers included André Gedalge, Charles-Marie Widor and Vincent d'Indy. He was associated with the group Les Six.

Honegger composed orchestral works such as Pacific 231 (1923) and Rugby (1928), as well as oratorios including Le Roi David (1921) and Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher (1935). He also wrote extensively for the stage and produced numerous film scores. His film credits include music for La Roue (1923), Napoleon (1927), Les Misérables (1934) and Pygmalion (1938).

He married the composer and pianist Andrée Vaurabourg. Honegger remained active as a composer of concert, stage and film music until his death in Paris.
