## Biography

Arthur Kober (1900–1975) was an American screenwriter, playwright, humorist and press agent. Born in Brody, Galicia (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire), he emigrated with his family to New York as a child and later worked as a theatrical press agent before turning to writing.

He contributed humorous short stories to *The New Yorker* from 1926 onwards and wrote the Broadway play *Having Wonderful Time* (1937). In Hollywood he worked on around thirty films in the 1930s and 1940s, including the screenplay for *Me and My Gal* (1932) and additional scenes and dialogue for *The Little Foxes* (1941). He was married to the playwright Lillian Hellman from 1925 until their divorce in 1932.
